How Fuel Cost Calculator Works
This calculator estimates fuel cost by using your vehicle’s fuel efficiency and the distance you plan to travel. It supports three mileage formats:
- km/l — common in India & Asia
- mpg — miles per gallon (US)
- L/100km — common in Europe
Formula Used
Fuel Needed = Distance ÷ Efficiency (km/l)
Fuel Cost = Fuel Needed × Fuel Price
For mpg:
Convert mpg → km/l:
1 mpg = 0.425144 km/l
For L/100km:
km/l = 100 ÷ (L/100km)
Example Calculation
If fuel price is $1.20 per liter, your mileage is 15 km/l, and your trip is 120 km:
Fuel Needed = 120 ÷ 15 = 8 liters
Total Cost = 8 × $1.20 = $9.60
Cost Per km = $9.60 ÷ 120 = $0.08
What Affects Fuel Cost?
- Driving speed & style
- Vehicle load
- Tire pressure
- Fuel type
- Engine condition
Frequently Asked Questions
Both measure the same thing; they just use different unit systems.
Yes, using AC can reduce fuel efficiency by 10–25% depending on the vehicle.
Maintain steady speed, check tire pressure, avoid idling, and service your vehicle regularly.
